Nestled against the San Gabriel Mountains, Altadena is one of the most scenic communities in the San Gabriel Valley. It is bordered to the west by the Arroyo Seco and Oak Grove Park, to the east by Eaton Canyon, and to the south by the City of Pasadena.
Altadena, with a population just under 45,000, is a charming, historical town with wide, tree-lined streets and a strong sense of community. There are few paved sidewalks, plenty of greenspace, and it's common to find homes with mountain trails leading from their backyards. When residents feel the need for big city amenities, Pasadena is right next door, and Los Angeles is only a 30 minute drive.
Altadena homes are mainly single-family with very few apartments or condos. Real estate in Altadena ranges from small starter homes to horse properties and luxury multi-million dollar estates with spectacular mountain views.
A new addition to Altadena is the master-planned community of La Vina. This exceptional development features earthquake-resistant steel-framing, Spanish Monterey architecture and luxury amenities, large walk-in closets, wood-burning fireplaces and breath taking views of the city.
Downtown Altadena is full of interesting shops and restaurants, including Mariposa Village with its stores and library. The Business Technology Center, a 40,000 square foot technology mega center is also located in town and employs many residents. The Altadena Town and Country Club offers tennis courts, swimming pool, manicured gardens, and serves as a gathering place for many of the surrounding communities.
Altadena schools are served by the Pasadena Unified School District and include seven public primary and elementary schools, and one junior high school. The closest high school is located in Pasadena as well as the Pasadena City College.
